SNL viewers couldn't tell from home there was any drama going on whenKanye West took the stage, but behind the scenes it was a different story.
"He was rightfully upset as they dismantled half his staging 30 minutes prior to showtime," says a source close to the star. "I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication or what. It was smoothed over and the show went on as planned."
According to the New York Post's Page Six, West "had a meltdown and threatened to walk off" right before the live show.
The rapper's wife Kim Kardashian "had to come down" and Lorne Michaels also had to "personally talk to Kanye," a source tells the publication.
SNL cast member Aidy Bryant revealed on Monday's episode of Watch What Happens Live the star brought up his reality star wife during the "good nights" segment (in which the whole cast and guest stars gather) in dress rehearsal.
"She was kind of nervous and like, 'Why am I here?' She was like, 'This is not my show. I shouldn't be up here,'" said Bryant. "She went and stood down weirdly in front of the audience. She was up there in her floor-length fur coat."
West has been involved in controversy for the last few weeks, igniting feuds with Wiz Khalifa, Taylor Swift and more.
He also claimed to be $53 million in personal debt on Twitter and publicly asked Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg for help. West later followed up on Twitter to clarify he has his own money but wants to enlist the help of others to fund his future endeavors.
